Cruz de Fuego Tepextate is a wild-harvested artisanal mezcal from Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, made by Margarita Blas and Carlos Mendez under the Productores del Buen Agave banner. Tepextate (Agave marmorata) is among the longest-maturing wild agave varietals — typically 25–30+ years — producing one of the most prized and rare single-varietal mezcal expressions.
Tepextate is found in rocky, mountainous Oaxacan terrain, with the long maturation cycle producing exceptionally complex flavor development. The wild varietal mezcal category has surged in interest because of expressions like this — distinctly more elegant, mineral, and structurally complex than mass-market Espadin. Cruz de Fuego’s fully traditional production chain preserves the rare wild varietal character.
