Glen Garioch—pronounced Glen Geery in the ancient Doric dialect still spoken locally—is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries and the most easterly one. Since 1797, it has been producing its renowned malt in the charming historic market town of Oldmeldrum, located near Aberdeen in Northeastern Scotland.
Glen Garioch matures its Virgin Oak releases in virgin North American white oak casks for the entirety of the maturation process. The use of virgin oak barrels for whisky accentuates big, bold flavours.
Nose: Caramel, stone fruits and, surprisingly, only slight vanilla aromas.
Palate: Oak sweetness as opposed to oak spiciness. Stone fruits continue from the nose with lavender honey on the back palate.
Finish: Medium length with a tannin tug on the tongue. Here, we get some oak spiciness right a the finish.
