Standard Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is filtered through sugar maple charcoal once, before barrel entry. Gentleman Jack doubles that step: the new spirit filters through charcoal before going into the barrel, and then the aged whiskey filters through charcoal again before bottling. The result of this second mellowing is a whiskey that is exceptionally smooth and refined — less edge, less bite, more polish. The oak and caramel character from barrel aging remains, but every harsh note has been removed twice over.
