This stellar bottle comes from a distillery that might be unfamiliar to even the most ardent whiskey fans. The Matsui located in the Tottori Prefecture, where fresh water must filter up through layers of volcanic rock before being used as the base for whiskey. The water gives a purity and a soft mineral composition that is the backbone of everything Matsui produces. The distillery does’t have to do much advertising because the whiskeys they produce are so highly sought-after. This is a 100% barley malt whiskey, aged in ex-sherry casks for eight years. It is delicate and sweet with notes of pear, oak and cereals.
