Laphroaig Distillery was established in 1815 on the rocky south coast of the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. Laphroaig is a malt whisky distillery which continues to malt barley using its traditional malting floors and malt kiln. In 1994 Laphroaig was awarded the Royal Warrant. Visitors are welcomed at the Laphroaig Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available. Laphroaig Distillery participates in Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music.
Massive initial aroma is of dark chocolate and rich creamy sherry with just a tang of thick sweet plums and peat. small splash of water brings out a mass of flavours ? from strong black coffee and walnuts to caramel and salt, together with a mass of different soft fruit flavours a and that time-honoured tang of peat.
