Oban 15 Year Port Cask Finish is produced at the Oban Distillery, founded in 1794 by brothers Hugh and John Stevenson on the western coast of Scotland's Highlands — one of the oldest and smallest distilleries in the country. Situated between the Highlands and the Islands on a little bay carved by the sea, the distillery's seven artisans produce whisky in tiny lantern-shaped copper pot stills among the smallest in Scotland, a constraint that shapes a distinctly balanced and maritime-inflected house style. This expression marks the second release in Oban's 15-year cask-finished series, following the Cask Strength Sherry Cask Finish of 2025, and was inspired by the shared coastal heritage of Oban and Porto, Portugal — two port towns connected by centuries of seafaring trade.

The whisky undergoes its primary maturation of fifteen years in American oak hogsheads before being transferred to carefully selected 100% American oak ruby port casks for a finishing period. The port cask finishing was calibrated, in the words of Diageo Master Blender Dr. Stuart Morrison, to allow the cask's influence to complement the distillery's character without overwhelming it — adding depth and red fruit notes while preserving the structure and balance that define Oban's maritime identity. The result is bottled at 52.1% ABV, a proof point that preserves the intensity of the finishing without sacrificing the spirit's coastal character.

The nose opens with fruity white wine, raspberry, and vanilla alongside Oban's signature maritime notes of sea breeze and warm sand. The palate is soft and creamy in texture, with honeyed sweetness and juicy red fruit developing into gentle salinity and building peppery spice. The finish is short to medium and dry, closing on lingering white pepper and a faint mineral brine that is characteristic of the distillery's position on Scotland's Atlantic-facing coast.
