Taste
Thomas H. Handy 2019 is a highly sought-after bourbon that is part of the coveted "Antique Collection Series" produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery. Named after the legendary Master Distiller and innovative bartender Thomas H. Handy, this rare blend boasts a rich and smooth profile. On the nose, expect bright notes of spearmint and delicate floral aromas, while the palate reveals creamy layers of sweet butterscotch and vanilla. The finish is warm and inviting, with lingering hints of baking spices, chocolate, and a subtle touch of cedar that perfectly rounds out the experience.

History
Thomas H. Handy 2019 is a bold spirit that has been around since 1782 and has evolved over the years but hasn't changed in quality. It was a popular spirit in bars and saloons, which used to be called coffee houses. The famed Sazerac Coffee House was founded in 1850 in New Orleans, where people gathered to enjoy fine spirits. Although it wasn’t until 1895 that they were mentioned in print, Vincent Miret, a bartender and co-owner at the Sazerac House, became renowned for his cocktail mixing skills. The original recipe was a blend of brandy, sugar, and bitters, but by 1885, rye whiskey replaced the brandy. Notably, from 1895 to 1899, Thomas H. Handy sold bottled cocktails, although the Sazerac cocktail was first documented in 1901. In 1919, Handy established the Sazerac Company just before Prohibition, navigating difficult times by incorporating a restaurant and deli. After Prohibition's end in 1933, the company resumed cocktail production, launching a bar and bottling facility in New Orleans. The spirit was renewed, bottled, and sold at the Sazerac Bar until 1949, when it relocated to the Roosevelt Hotel, where it remains today. In 1952, they began expanding into other spirits and acquiring brands, culminating in the establishment of Buffalo Trace in 1999. A highly collectible spirit, the 2019 cask-strength rye-based release is part of Buffalo Trace's anticipated Antique Collection series, and this limited release is also barrel proof and non-chill filtered, showcasing the distillery's dedication to quality.
