The ninth edition of WhistlePig's annual single barrel limited release program — Siren's Song. Single barrel. Barrel strength. Vermont straight rye with a multi-cask finishing influence drawing from Caribbean rum and Madeira traditions.

The Boss Hog series is WhistlePig's annual pinnacle expression — each edition concept-driven, barrel strength, single barrel, and thematically named. By Boss Hog IX, the series had achieved international recognition through its preceding editions' critical acclaim, including the Boss Hog IV Black Prince's Best In Show Whiskey win at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Siren's Song is the ninth chapter: a mythological reference to the irresistible, complex call of an extraordinary barrel-strength rye.

Each Boss Hog edition explores an exotic finishing influence beyond the standard Vermont rye maturation. The IX Siren's Song incorporates finishing cask elements that draw from maritime and Madeira wine traditions, adding layers of tropical fruit, dried wine character, and exotic spice to the Vermont rye's foundation. At barrel strength, these finishing influences are delivered at maximum intensity without the softening that dilution introduces.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep amber with the concentration of Vermont straight rye at barrel strength.
  • Nose: Complex and seductive — the Vermont rye's characteristic spice layered with tropical and maritime finishing influences. Dried fruit, warm spice, and the distinctive aromatic complexity of the Siren's Song concept.
  • Palate: Powerful and multi-layered at barrel strength — the rye grain spice integrated with the exotic finishing cask character in a seamlessly complex expression.
  • Finish: Long and evolving — the Siren's Song finishing character persisting through a deeply satisfying close.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does Boss Hog IX compare to earlier editions? The series progressed from founding Vermont rye purity (Batches I-II) through increasingly exotic finishing explorations (III–VIII) to the Siren's Song concept in IX. Each edition is defined by its specific finishing influence and thematic identity. IX represents the series at its most developed — nine editions of annual refinement.
  • What does Siren's Song reference? In Greek mythology, the Sirens were sea creatures whose irresistible song lured sailors to their fate. The Siren's Song edition positions the Boss Hog IX as an irresistible, complex expression — the maritime and Madeira finishing elements connecting thematically to the sea mythology.
  • Is Boss Hog IX a single barrel? Yes — like all Boss Hog editions, Siren's Song is a single barrel expression bottled at its natural proof without dilution.
  • Is Boss Hog IX still available? A rare find. Boss Hog editions are single barrel, strictly limited, and not restocked.
