A traditional Dutch Genever from Zuidam (makers also of Dutch single malt whisky). Genever is a gin that has to be at least partly made with malted barley. Distilled from a mix of equal parts Malted Barley, Rye and Corn, the barley gives the backbone, maize gives some sweetness and the rye the spiciness. After three distillations, the spirit is distilled once more with the desired herbs such as juniper berries, liquorice and aniseed. This genever ABV is reduced to 45% ABV before barreling is aged for 3 years in 200 litre, new American oak barrels. The bottle strength is then further reduced from the barrel strength.
Nose: Juniper, vanilla and oak.
Palate: Creamy mouth feel with vanilla and fudge. But skulking in the background are pine nuts and cloves.
Finish: Medium to long with more fruitiness.
